Gateway of India
Apollo Bandar, Colaba, Mumbai, Maharashtra
About this place
Mumbai's most recognizable landmark, the Gateway of India is a triumphal arch of basalt facing the Arabian Sea at Apollo Bunder. Built in Indo-Saracenic style and completed in 1924, it commemorates the landing of King George V in 1911. The promenade around it is a favourite gathering spot at sunset, with views of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and ferries to Elephanta Island.
