About this place

Built between 1729 and 1732 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II as the centrepiece of his new capital, the City Palace complex blends Rajput, Mughal and European architectural ideas. Inside are the Mubarak Mahal, Chandra Mahal (still the royal residence), the silver urns of the Sarvato Bhadra, and the four ornately painted Pritam Niwas Chowk gates representing the four seasons.

Open daily 9:30 am to 5 pm for the museum complex. Special evening tours with night-lighting run 7 pm to 10 pm in winter.

Around ₹200 for Indian citizens and ₹700 for foreigners (composite ticket). Premium 'Royal Grandeur' tours that include the Chandra Mahal private residence cost considerably more.
Can I visit the royal residence?
Most of the Chandra Mahal is still the home of the current Maharaja. Only the ground-floor parts are included in the standard ticket; the rest requires the Royal Grandeur tour.
What's inside that's worth seeing?
The four-season Pritam Niwas Chowk gates, the silver urns of Sarvato Bhadra (largest single-piece silver objects in the world), the Mubarak Mahal textile museum and the armoury.
How do I combine it with other sights?
City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal are within a 10-minute walk of each other — most visitors do all three on the same morning.
