Char Kaman, Ghansi Bazaar, Hyderabad, Telangana
About this place
Built in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah to celebrate the end of a deadly plague in his new capital, the Charminar is a square mosque-monument with four 56-metre minarets at the corners. Located at the heart of the Laad Bazaar, it remains the symbol of Hyderabad. Climb the spiral staircase for views across the Old City and the gleaming Mecca Masjid next door.

Frequently asked
When is Charminar open?
The exterior plaza is open 24 hours. Climbing to the upper levels is permitted 9:30 am to 5:30 pm daily.
What is the entry fee for climbing up?
Around ₹25 for Indian citizens and ₹300 for foreigners. Children under 15 enter free. The plaza is free to walk around.
How do I reach the Charminar?
MGBS bus station is 1.5 km away. The nearest metro is MGBS on the Green Line, about 2 km. Most visitors take an auto from Begumpet or Secunderabad.
Should I climb up?
Yes — the upper balcony gives a 360° view of the Old City, the Mecca Masjid next door and the Laad Bazaar bangle market. The spiral staircase is narrow and steep — not ideal for very young children or anyone with limited mobility.
What's the best time?
Just after Maghrib (sunset) prayer at the Mecca Masjid, when the Charminar lights up and the Laad Bazaar comes alive. Avoid Fridays around midday — the area is extremely busy.
