About this place

A walled red sandstone city built by Akbar from 1565, Agra Fort served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors until the capital shifted to Delhi in 1638. Inside are palaces, audience halls, the marble Diwan-i-Khas, and the Musamman Burj — the octagonal tower where Shah Jahan spent his final years gazing across the Yamuna at the Taj Mahal he had built. A UNESCO World Heritage Site.
